Lanmou
Selected 2026 : Doc Amazonie Caraïbe — FIFAC
In Creole, love is lanmou. Break it apart and you hear lanm ou: your soul.
In this film I wanted to talk about love, but not just any love: the kind that lasts. The love of those elderly couples who have been together for decades, who have come through the eras and their changes and withstood life's upheavals, because back then you gritted your teeth and you didn't divorce…
And I wondered what these couples could still teach us about love. And behind their intimate stories, there is also an Antillean society I want to look at: its legacies, the complex relations between men and women, the paradox of a matriarchal society.
With all these couples, I want to capture their gestures of care, modest yet moving, to film a slower time, the little nothings that say everything.
My parents would have celebrated 65 years of happy marriage had my father not left us suddenly two years ago. I realise now that I had the finest example right before my eyes. This film is also a tribute.
